Outstanding Contemporary Bedroom

Washington Spaces, Spring 2009
What do you do when one person wants traditional design and the other wants contemporary? If you’re lucky, a sophisticated space emerges with no visible compromises, such as this bedroom that deftly blends elements of each style. Rather than a showcase of personality, the room was meant to be a tranquil, unifying space. The unembellished, well-proportioned furniture, including Christian Liaigre’s armoire, Flexform chairs, and Paolo Piva’s oversized bed, rests atop hand-scraped walnut floors. Alcove lighting, silk drapes, and a dramatic Flos fixture in the center of the room balance each other beautifully. The two flat-screen TVs all but disappear into the custom Poliform wall panels until they are turned on, allowing the owners to enjoy different programs separately while still together.
