“The remodel of this kitchen started with a very interesting discussion between Shadi and Frank about minimalism and whether white is a color. Shadi, who loves strong colors, was worried that a kitchen in white may be too cold. Frank, on the other hand, was on the quest for a streamlined, clutter-free, eat-in kitchen with a spacious feel. A careful reduction and pairing of finishes accomplishes just that: oak base cabinetry connects with the existing/refinished oak floor; glossy, tall, white upper cabinets reflect light and blend with the walls; and grey Caesar stone countertops match the color of the lake outside of the kitchen window. We removed the original pantry, opened up the layout, and changed the flow of the kitchen to visually exaggerate its length. The cabinetry handles are recessed, there is no visible hardware, and new appliances (Gaggenau/Bosch/Sub Zero) are practically invisible until needed. Accessories, furniture, and art from Wegerich’s collection were edited and placed to complete the space.” –Vincent Sagart
