A 150-year-old brick wall that spans both levels of a Capitol Hill rowhouse informed the design for a couple’s kitchen and upstairs bedroom. Vincent Sagart employed rough, textured finishes in the kitchen to complement the old brick and the warm mahogany flooring; he specified painted brushed-pine cabinetry, for example, and used honed limestone embedded with hundreds of petrified fossils.
In the bedroom, he pared the room down to a few essential ingredients—a Moooi lamp, a sculpted chair by Massoud for Poliform, and a print by Tom Wesselmann. Along with a stark-white bed and closet system, the design becomes a stylistic frame around those historic bricks.
An entirely new bath, meanwhile, is a study in rough and smooth, white and gray, light and water. The focal point is a huge bathtub and shower set within a slab of pure white stone.
